Important Factors of Choosing Cycling Helmets

It is well known that there are two factors that people choose cycling helmet:safety and appearance, and there is another important factor: comfort.

After all, helmets are one of the frequently-used personal equipment, the time that you spend on cycling a bike is equal to the time that you wear cycling helmets, so it is necessary to choose a comfortable helmet.

There are mainly several aspects about safety of cycling helmets: manufacturing process, internal skeleton, safety technology and so on.

Manufacturing Process: It can be divided into one molding and non-integrated molding .

Integrated Molding: shell and inner bile will be put into a machine and processed once.

Non-integrated Molding: the inner bile and shell are processed separately, then assembled.

In general, all-in-one helmets, housing and inner bile will have a better attachment and offers a better protection for the head.

Internal skeleton: Increases the overall strength of the helmet by laying the skeleton in the inner bile (which can be compared to a  mix of steel bar and concrete). In the past, this technology has been used in top helmets and recently has been widely used in other levels.

Safety Technology: Mainly MIPS-Multi-directional Impact Protection System, which can effectively reduce head impact   from all angles caused by injury, concussion prevention. You can refer to the figure below.

Safety is also reflected in the safety certification of a cycling helmet. Specifically, GB 24429-2009 "Sports Helmet Bicycle, Skateboard, Roller Skate Sports Helmet Safety Requirements and Test Methods." There are also other required certifications like CE EU, CPSC USA, AS/NZS Australia (Australia, New Zealand), TUV Germany, CSA Canada, etc. Usually they are reflected on the label inside the helmet, as shown below.

Comfort: The comfort of wearing a cycling helmet is mainly reflected in the adjustment system, internal shape and ventilation.

Adjustment System: In general adjustment system is virtually the same on different helmets and no obvious gap, which can be ignored for the time being.

Helmet interior shape: mainly divided into round Asian head type, and oval European head type.

It is suggested that Asians choose cycling helmet that is specially made for asians, because European head helmets will have a certain sense of oppression on both sides of their heads, Wearing an Asian head helmet will have a better fit Asian head shape, thus, providing greater security and more comfort.

Ventilation: The more vents in the helmet has, the better the helmet’s ventilation is, and the cooler and more comfortable are provided for cycling. Of course, the weight and strength of the helmet will decrease accordingly.

Appearance: The shape and color of the helmet, or printmaking, are also important.Pick a helmet you like that fits your aesthetic.

Cleaning and replacement of the riding helmet

The cleaning of the cycling helmet can be divided into two parts, one is the main body of the helmet and the other is the sweat-absorbing lining.
